Overview

Founded almost 150 years ago, Sioux Falls Seminary (formerly North American Baptist Seminary) emphasizes a Bible-focused curriculum combined with spiritual formation and hands-on ministry experiences.

Throughout its history, Sioux Falls Seminary has worked to place students in churches or other places of ministry where they are able to preach, teach, and lead worship or see clients through the seminary's Marriage and Family Therapy Clinic, which enhances classroom instruction. Now Sioux Falls Seminary is taking that philosophy of Contextual Learning even further. Classes can be taken off-campus through online courses, independent studies, audio/video courses, and other flexible options. In addition, students seeking a distance education program can now take advantage of our In Ministry programs which allow up to half of the credits to be taken off campus and the remainder through a cycle of intensives.

Study at Sioux Falls Seminary in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, will not only equip you for ministry, but more so, transform you. Sioux Falls Seminary provides a strong sense of community or "koinonia" through caring relationships among faculty and students. Faculty, administrators, and staff are actively involved in ministry situations that enhance their mentoring relationships with students.

Sioux Falls Seminary offers more than an education--it's an experience. Spiritual formation of the student is fostered in the following ways:

  • Scheduled voluntary spiritual development groups meet on a regular basis throughout each semester

  • Chapel services model meaningful worship

  • Professors make themselves available as mentors and friends

  • Growth manuals are provided as a guide through a student's entire Seminary experience

  • Spiritual renewal retreats are planned in the fall and spring for a refreshing change from the classroom setting.

  • The Seminary's curriculum is balanced between theory and practice

  • Courses focus on proficiency in counseling, evangelism, and leadership, as well as teaching and preaching the Word of God
Sioux Falls Seminary is known for its creative, relational teaching in adult learning models. Flexibility within the degree programs allows a student to address his or her career goals. Sioux Falls Seminary is also noted for its strong placement record.

Denominational diversity within the student body fosters a broadening of thought and perspective. Classes allow for rich interaction between students and faculty.
