Overview
Sioux Falls Seminary has programs of study leading to a variety of professional and academic degrees. Current and detailed information concerning academic policies is provided in the catalog and student handbook. A general overview of policies is provided below.
The seminary also provides a unique mix of spiritual formation and mentoring that allows a healthy environment for ministry preparation. We believe that academic preparation must be joined to the personal spiritual journey of each student. Formal education is not enough. Non-formal and informal modes of learning find a privileged place in ministry preparation here.
Our Philosophy
Sioux Falls Seminary exists to meet the needs of the church. This is and always will be our only reason to equip and train leaders for ministry. At SFS, we have always placed an emphasis on practical learning. And today, more than ever, we recognize the need that the church and its greater community have for quality, trained leaders. Through our educational philosophy of Contextual Learning, we are striving to meet those seeking a theological education in the ministry contexts in which they serve. Whether serving a church here in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, or on the other side of the globe, every student will receive a solid and quality theological education along with hands-on experience.
All degree programs serve the same basic purpose: training leaders for the work of Christ in a variety of ministry contexts. Click on the degree program links below to learn more about each program and its specifics.
On Campus
The programs below are offered on our campus through a traditional residential plan. However, students in all programs receive hands-on practical experience and are encouraged to take advantage of our flexible study options to personalize their program.
These distance learning options go beyond a traditional distance learning model. In addition to online classes and on-campus intensives, the In Ministry programs at Sioux Falls Seminary allow students to take maximum advantage of contextual learning philosophy by turning their current place of ministry into their primary classroom—regardless of location.
