Biography
Growing up in the warm coastal area of southern California, Mike loved the ocean and had a desire to work in the field of marine biology. Receiving the call to ministry while dissecting a leopard shark in a college marine biology lab, Mike heard a voice say, “People are eternal.” Even though he had done everything possible to prepare himself for a career in marine biology, the Lord used that phrase to change him. Mike and his wife, Barbara, pastored in Colorado and California. Mike served for several years before entering into the field of higher education. Since coming to Sioux Falls Seminary, Mike has served as a professor, Academic Vice President and Dean, and now President. Mike enjoys seeing students going through the process of answering their calls. And as president, he has increased the opportunities available at SFS for contextual learning. His efforts help the seminary better meet the changing needs of the church while allowing students to earn their masters or doctorate degree while serving in a ministry context.
